The hummingbird nest that I was watching, the eggs are not viable. They should have hatched last week, and she finally abandoned them at the beginning of this week. I am so bummed. So I was looking at videos of past hummingbirds at that site. I am putting a funny one on here of a chick almost falling out of the nest. It looks like the bird puts itself in rewind to get back into the nest.
The videos don't really do a hummingbird nest justice. They are EXTREMELY small. I don't know how 2 chicks and a momma bird fit in there! If you enjoy this video, there are a few others by this same person. There's a funny one called a day in the life that has 7 hours compressed into 7 minutes. It's pretty cute!

Getting them while I can!
I know these are really rides for young kids, but these girls had a ball! I figured Suzi would stop wanting to go places like this with us soon, so I better take pictures while I can! Today was the first time I had met this little girl. We didn't run her off with our goofiness. In fact, I overheard her tell Suzi, "Your parents are really cool!"

Do you know who this is?
Neither did the girls. It's Joan Jett. We got fairly close so the girls were interested. Once they started hearing the songs, they were like, OH COOL! This is like Guitar Hero! They recognized songs from the video game.
I think this quite possibly was the hottest day I have experienced since living in California. I thought I was back in Florida!!

The Asparagus Festival
Who knew the asparagus festival would be HUGE?! WAAAAAY too many people and it was DARN HOT out there today. I did get to try deep fried asparagus though. It was pretty good. I keep on forgetting that my ears have never seen the sun though. My poor ears get burned every time I am in the sun!

Granny, can you pick your girl out? She wants to be a flyer.

I can't help it!
I LOVE corn, and I love mountains! This is what you see if you're standing in front of George's school. The countdown is on for popping a whole ear of corn, husks and all into the microwave. Leave it for 3 minutes, and you have the perfectly cooked ear of corn. Slice up some tomatoes (which I haven't yet located) and you have my favorite fall meal. We buy ears of corn by the dozens. Excuse me while I go wipe my watering mouth!

For He-man's Girlfriend
This is for He-man's girlfriend. She wanted more pics scanned of when they were little. Sorry it took me so long to get them on here.

Not ready for this yet!
This was Suzi and her Granny playing dress up one night. This was my wedding dress. She would actually probably fit perfectly in it right now. At age 10. (sigh)

I can do this!
The broker that is going to hire me when I get my license, she is letting me come to their training sessions now, even though I don't have my license yet. I don't know anybody there really yet. I have met the broker and one of her friends who works there.
I got there and of course had to walk into this place where I know nothing and know no one. No biggie, I went in. I went in, and everybody stopped and looked at me. I was looking for a familiar face and didn't see anybody. Someone asked if they can help me, and I told them I was there for training. Then, the friend pops around the corner and was very helpful. She introduced me to some people there, etc.
After the training part, the broker then said a few things to everybody. Then before I knew it, she was introducing me and says, tell them how I met you. Next thing I know, I am talking in front of about 15 people. Again, no biggie.
Training got over, I get in my car to leave, and it hit me. OMG she just put me on the spot in front of (to me) a ton of people. I talked about what she wanted me to talk about and everybody was looking at me. It was then that I got the rapid heart rate and flushed face. Anybody who knows me knows I DO NOT do public speaking or public ANYTHING! I played the piano in church one time and never played again. I was shaking so badly that I knew the whole congregation could see my music shaking on the piano.
I don't have a degree in college because I would not take a speech class. That's how bad it was/is.
But I came away from there feeling pretty darn proud of myself. Then I was thinking back to Suzi last night. I want to be like her when I grow up :)

My daughter inspires me
And at least one day she can read this and know she does.
I took her to her cheer thing last night. It is a week long and they learn what they need to know for tryouts. When we first got there, she kept saying how nervous she was and that she didn't know anybody. I told her she would be fine.
They took the girls and went over rules, etc. and then told them to go to their groups. Well, she didn't know her group and I didn't know her group. I had to go to the parent meeting for all this so I told her to just ask. I could see a little bit of tears swelling in her eyes. I told her it would be okay and to just ask someone.
They showed everybody the dance and cheer they would be learning, and there must be at least 80 girls there. My jaw probably dropped. I thought OMG can she DO that???
I went to the parent meeting and occasionally glanced back over to make sure she wasn't coming to get me to say "let's go home."
I got back over there and that girl was rockin and rollin!! She was having a ball. At their break time, she brought a couple girls over and introduced them as her new "friends."
Me? I would have seen that dance and packed up and gone home. I really don't doubt that. So if my daughter can make the most of a situation, be nervous as can be, stick it out and put her all into it, so can I.
Which leads to my next post.

Yesterday was the full moon
According to the farmer's almanac. This moon was absolutely gorgeous tonight. If you click on the pic, you'll see it even better.
I am loving the Canon camera that allowed me to take that picture. I have tried so many times before with no success!

What is a car wash worth?
I was thinking today that I need to get my kiddos to hand wash my car to earn money. I used to do it for 2 bucks. I also used to mow the grass for 2 bucks. I am thinking my kids would laugh hysterically if I told them I would pay them 2 bucks to wash my car.
I watched Walk the Line (part of it) yesterday. Johnny Cash needed 4 bucks to record a record back whenever it was. I can't even imagine what it costs now!
I know my talk about prices wouldn't compare to my grandparents' prices and wages when they were young. The simpler life is so much more appealing tho!

My Garden of Eden
Is this not one of the most beautiful sights you have ever seen? The following pics are taken on 3 corners of an intersection that is one mile from my house. I took them all this morning when I took He-man to school.
YUMMMY strawberries!!
And these, I don't know what they are yet. The other corner is still not growing anything yet. Not sure what will grow there.

What a difference a month makes!
Remember how beautifully green the hills were on March 17th?
http://korndogs.blogspot.com/2008/03/even-weeds.html
This is the same hill yesterday. As soon as the rains stop, the green goes away. This is not even as ugly as this hill will get. It will be completely brown soon and stay that way until Novemberish.

I love these things!
I hope one day to have my own little hummingbird nest. But for now, I will live vicariously through the person who owns this webcam. Thank you, whoever you are!

What does it mean?
For those who are older than me who don't know puter lingo,
WTH is what the heck...
I am trying to turn over a new leaf and clean up my language that my daddy taught me :)

Gray hairs?
Big deal. I have a few. Okay, more than a few, but compared to what I could have, I'm doing okay.
But WTH is with the craziness of having perfectly white hairs showing up in my eyebrows? Something is wrong here. There's not enough hair there to "blend in."
Anybody found that fountain of youth we can bathe in yet?
I am teasing. I do intend to grow old gracefully. I just want to be healthy!

I did not forget!
BUT I didn't get a card put in the mail. This is not unusual for me. I'm thinking about you though and hope you have an awesome day!
Here's hoping Tony will swing by and give you a ride in THIS :) It will beat the heck out of that limo any day, huh?

What this means...
A friend got this in email from a co-worker to be her signature line in email.
I believe what that translates to is, you need to take a month off work and take a vacation to sunny California :)

Watching fireworks
These were some of my favorite pictures. I love her face. I don't know WHY she would cover her ears. The MOMMY would NEVER have done that :)
That's a little inside joke there. I liked to watch fireworks from the safety of the inside of a car or house. I am still that way.

Don't you think my brother
.....should hook me up with some new pics of my nephews? I miss them. This was taken 6 years ago!
Seriously, I do have some more recent pics, but I just love this one :) I need a recent pic of the boys and Suzi's mini me tho!

A shut out!!
Who'd have thunk it? See the big boy on the very far right that is leaning over but still the tallest kid there? That little baby boy pitched a shut out today! WOOOO HOOOO 3-0 and they beat cross town rivals. This pic was taken in '98.
This one was taken in '02. How would you like to run into THIS catcher?
He hit a big double to the center field fence today. The year these pics were taken was the first year he was able to put it over the fence.

Cheer sign ups are this weekend.
And Suzi asked me if she makes it, if I think she will get to be a flyer. She wants to stand on people like this. Look at that form! The problem is, she outweighs most girls her age by about 30 pounds and is about 6 to 8 inches taller. The likelihood of someone being able to lift her is not good. But I said hopefully she can!

Why do we call him Georgie Porgie?
For the record, if he and his brother did not marry Mary Kate and Ashley Olson when they got older, I wanted George to marry this one :) Aren't they too cute? This was May '98.

My public service announcement
This is my public service announcement to any teens who read this blog. I guess if it applies to any adults, this means you, too!!
Warning: All the photos are very graphic, and the last ones are extremely gross.

Generation Y
In its January 22, 2008 edition, the Quebec City newspaper, Le Soleil, had a topic about generations by age group. Generations are grouped as follows: - The Silent generation, people born before 1945. - The Baby Boomers, people born between 1945 and 1961. - Generation X, people born between 1962 and 1976. - Generation Y, people born between 1977 and 1989. Why do we call the last one generation Y? I did not know, but a caricaturist explains it eloquently ... I learned something new. |

When I come back....
I want to be a chihuahua. It really pained him to have to raise his head and smile for the camera :)
It was 90 degrees on Sunday, and this morning I think it was in the 40s. I thought about pushing him out of the way and laying in the sun there on that rug :)

Vacation time
Hubs was talking about using his vacation time, and he needs to go ahead and put in for it early. He was asking when the kids are out of school, etc. A few years ago when we lived in Indiana, we decided to go to Chicago for the 4th of July, and it was AWESOME!
Well, funny man said, I can take off around the 4th of July, and we can drive over to Chicago.
UMMM, I don't think so! We'd have to sell off our children to afford the gas on that trip!

The Bobsie Twins
This is why I don't have too many recent pics of Suzi on here. These two are attached at the hip. One thing that is cool is that with the move, these guys are such good friends that being across the lake won't matter. I still expect they will be at our house or at her friend's house! They went to see Nym's Island yesterday and both highly recommend it, if you're wondering :)
They are upstairs doing gymnastics. I call it California thunder! It's been a few years since I have heard thunder, except for when theses guys are tumbling upstairs!

Jack's sunbathing?
It was a long ways down the steps today for George. He wasn't quite awake yet and this is where he ended up. Or that's what I thought. Upon a closer look at this picture, he MAY be trying to get some sun on those albino feet :)

Grandparent rights
I think my mom might be contacting an attorney for grandparent rights or something. She may try to take the grand dog from me. Yes, Jack!
I forgot I had told her about Suzi painting Jack's nails. She read about the Beckham shirt and the pink leash, and she wanted to know what the heck we are doing to this dog!
It's all good, mom. We are near San Francisco, after all!

Pink isn't so bad, is it?
The other day when I got my new camera (for my birthday) I went to take pics of the sunset. I took sunset pics, pics of the fountain, pretty much anything and everything to see how the colors would come out at dusk.
On that walk, hubby became very aware of the possible perception he was portraying.
He said, we better hurry up. People are probably taking pictures of me. I of course did not understand.
He said, yeah, here I am with some woman taking pictures of fountains, walking my wussy little dog, who is wearing a David Beckham tshirt, and using a pink leash. Poor guy. I walked Jack the rest of the way home :)
I don't care what anybody thinks, baby. You ARE a studmuffin

So sneaky I am
I told him this pic was for Hayley so she will think he looks better with a haircut, but since it's for her, he smiled really good. LOOK AT THOSE TEETH! Isn't he so handsome?
